My #2018makenine plans

Happy new year everyone!

I love new years as it means a fresh start, an opportunity to make new plans and chance to recap on the previous year. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that my 2017 Make Nine had mixed success. I made 5 of my 9 items, which isn’t too bad.

With this in mind, I put a bit more thought into my #2018makenine. I want to try and make more clothes that I’ll actually wear. Seeing as I practically live in jeans and tshirts, I need more basic everyday patterns to make. I love to make a nice dress but in reality, I don’t wear them very often. As it’s been Christmas holidays recently, I’ve done A LOT of online fabric and pattern shopping, so I already have nearly all these patterns and the fabric to make them. I’ve also decided to participate in #sewmystyle this year, so a couple of the patterns are part of that.

2018 make nine1. Megan Nielsen Rowan bodysuit – As you may know, I’ve had this pattern and fabric for ages! It’s been on my to sew list since the summer but I just haven’t made it yet. I will definitely make it in 2018! I plan on using a white rib knit and making the polo neck version.

2. Friday Pattern Company Sunny Dress – This is January’s #sewmystyle pattern and I already have it printed off. I’ve got a plain black viscose knit fabric to make the dress out of. If it fits well it’d be nice to have a range of these for the summer months.

3. Closet Case Files Kalle Shirt Dress – This is another #sewmystyle make for later on this year. I don’t currently own this pattern but I’ve admired it since it was released last year.

4. Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater – I know I’m late to the party with this one. Everyone (it feels like) has already made this sweater and I’ve seen so many lovely ones on my Instagram feed. I’ve bought a quilted ponte roma to make a wearable toile out of but if all goes well I want to make more. I really like version 1 with the funnel neck and waistband.

5. Nina Lee Portobello Trousers – I’ve wanted some nice wide legged trousers for ages and this pattern looks perfect. I love the samples that she has made. For some reason, I want a navy crepe pair (I don’t usually wear navy) and I’ve just ordered some striped crepe to make a pair out of. I’m excited to make these!

6. Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers – These were on my makenine for last year and I didn’t get round to them. In fact, I’ve had a black and white stretch cotton to make a pair for a couple of years now! I think 2018 is the year to get these made. I’ve even bought the online class to help with fitting!

7. Sew Over It Eve Dress – This is probably the only pattern on my list that isn’t an everyday item for me, but Oh My God, it’s so gorgeous! I’ve wanted to make this since it was released in the summer. It’s such a beautiful dress, perfect for a summer event such as a wedding. I can’t wait to make this. I figured I’m allowed one nice dress in my list!

8. Helen’s Closet Blackwood Cardigan – I was planning on joining in with the Cosy Cardi Challenge back in October but never got round to it, so I’ve had this pattern and a grey marl knit since then. Again, I’ve seen so many great versions on my Instagram feed and I still really want to make it. This might jump to the top of my sewing queue!

9. Named Clothing Paola Turtleneck tee – I love a good polo neck top and have seen lots of these on social media. Everyone seems to have good things to say about this pattern and it’s something I will wear a lot. This is another item that I can see myself making in every colour and print available! To start with, I’ve got a striped rib knit to make it out of.

Have you made any of these? Any tips or advice? What’s on your #2018makenine?
