July sewing plans

I’m back with my second monthly plans post! A few days ago I posted a round up of my June makes. It was quite a successful month! On the post, I spoke about how I thought sharing my sewing plans was good for me so I’m here to share my July plans!

Again, I’m not trying to be overly ambitious and I’m thinking about what I need in my wardrobe. All my makes for July are in preparation for my trip to Vietnam and Cambodia in August so lots of holiday sewing! I’ve been thinking practically about what I will wear and what fabrics will store in a backpack well!

This month, I have 4 planned items but I also have several other items in my head that I would like to make if time allows! The first item on my list is the one thing I didn’t get round to last month.

Megan Nielsen – Rowan top

It’s cut out ready to go. I just need to man up with sewing jersey! I’ve decided on a short sleeve, polo neck body suit version. I’m hoping nothing disastrous happens so I can build a huge collection of these as they are a staple for me!

True Bias – Ogden cami

Like bodysuits, cami tops are another wardobe staple. I wear them all the time! Nights out, in the day, with jeans, with skirts, under cardigans… I think I have about 8 in my wardrobe (all shop bought) so being able to make my own that fit me perfectly would be amazing! Why do I need any more I hear you ask?! Well, they’re usually pretty tight around the bust and also, the majority are plain. I want some patterned ones in my life! Having said that, I’ve bought a royal blue crepe de chine from Fabric Godmother to make my first one. I’m in love with the colour of it. I plan on playing around with the fit a bit to perfect it, then I’m going to buy ALL THE FABRICS and make one in every print/ colour/ pattern possible!

Sew Over It – Kimono

Kimono-Jacket-2

A kimono will be the perfect item for my trip! I would use it as a beach cover up, in the evenings, to go visit temples and it’ll be lightweight and probably made from a fabric that doesn’t crease too much! I’m just struggling to find a fabric. I ordered a chiffon from Minerva but they emailed me to say they’d sold out. I’ve seen a nice crinkle crepe from Sewisfaction (I think) that I might purchase, but this is something I’m really keen to make this month before my trip!

New Look – 6488 dress

New look 6488

I bought this pattern when I was in Hobbycraft the other week as it was half price. I like all versions but I’m torn between C and D. C is more in fashion right now and I’ll feel slightly more covered up in it so I may go with that one. I don’t think I’ve ever used a New Look pattern before so it could be very interesting! I’ve got 2 potential fabrics. The first is a lovely rose print viscose from Minerva and the other is a beautiful floral crepe from Fabric Godmother. I’m edging towards the viscose, because it was cheaper and this pattern could go wrong!

Other potential makes (if time and money allow) include:

  • another pair of Flint Shorts in a khaki linen
  •  cullottes – either Flint pants or Butterick B6178 that was free with Love Sewing in either black or navy linen
  • more Ogden camis or Sew Over It Silk cami tops!

What are you making this month? Which fabric should I use for the New Look dress?
