More sewing plans!

Does anyone else get overwhelmed by the number of amazing patterns out there and want to make everything right now? There are hundreds, if not thousands, of awesome patterns and some incredibly inspirational sewists in the world and I love reading blogs and watching their vlogs. The downside is that I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by just how many things I want to make and fabrics I want to buy and looks I want to imitate! One day I want to make a certain top then the next I’m desperate to make a different dress!

I’m trying to take my projects one at a time, as I’m constantly changing my mind! There are now so many pattern companies out there that I literally have to keep a list every time I see a pattern I like or read a blog about something that looks amazing. The list grows a lot faster than I sew!

So far this year, I’ve made 3 items, 2 of which were on my make nine list. I’ve got fabric and pattern for 2 more items, 1 of which is on my make nine. (I’m thinking of swapping one of my make nine choices for the other pattern. Is this allowed?)

Spring sewing plans

My imminent makes are a Sew Over It Ultimate Pencil Skirt in this gorgeous stretch cotton. I saw this fabric on Lisa Comfort’s vlog and fell in love. I then saw a skirt made from it on Instagram and thought I’ve got to have one! Last week I visited the actual Sew Over It shop in Clapham, which was super exciting!, and purchased 2m of it. I’m almost scared to make it in case it goes wrong as I love the fabric so much!

My other imminent make is a Tilly and the Buttons Orla top in this heart print crepe. As I’ve mentioned before, I originally wanted to make a blouse or shirt, then remembered I can’t do buttons so have chosen the Orla top. I’ve got a red zipper with metal teeth for the exposed zip. I’ve decided on long sleeves but still deciding whether or not to add a collar.

bettine pattern

I recently purchased another Tilly and the Buttons pattern, the Bettine dress. I’ve read so many good things about this and I’m hoping it’ll become a staple in my wardrobe. I think I’m going to make a chambray one like the sample first and see how that goes.

molly dress

When I get paid, I plan on buying some stripy ponte roma to make the Molly dress from Sew Over It’s capsule wardrobe city break book. This dress was my main reason for buying the ebook. Hopefully, it’ll be something I live in! I love anything breton style and it’ll be perfect for work with tights or leggings. I could even go bare legged in the summer if it’s long enough!

I also have a love of body suits and have a growing collection in my wardrobe. I’m thinking of buying either Megan Nielsen’s Rowan top and/or Closet Case Files Nettie body suit pattern so I can make my own!

ogden cami pattern

I also have a love of cami tops. I think I have about 7 in various colours! They’re great for day or night with a pair of jeans or a simple skirt! With this in mind, I’m going to buy the Ogden cami pattern from True Bias so I can make my own!

There are lots of other patterns on my wishlist, but these are the top few (for now!). Others that I’m keen to try soon include:

  • Sew Over It’s kimono
  • Anything by Named Clothing – especially the Helga playsuit
  • Tilly & the Buttons Clemence skirt (from Love at First Stitch)
  • Megan Nielsen Flint shorts
  • Style Arc Gisele Dress
  • Tilly & the Buttons Fifi PJ set (again)
  • Denim Tilly & the Buttons Cleo pinafore

I’ll stop there!! My list could continue! I may very well change my mind about all of these tomorrow, but for now, this is my spring/summer sewing plans! I feel like I want to choose my make nine all over again! Also, I notice I’m choosing quite a few fabrics for jersey. Maybe I also need to invest in an overlocker.

What are your sewing plans? Any help or advice for any of these patterns?

I really enjoyed reading this post, I feel exactly the same about my sewing – there’s so much I want to do but not enough hours in the day! And I often have multiple projects on the go because I can’t simply just sew one thing at a time! I’ve sewn a couple of bettine’s (a chambray and a jersey one – there’s a great blog on TATB website about making it in jersey) and a Sew Over It kimono – both of them I love and are great patterns!!
