Sew Over It Silk Cami Top

I’ve finally finished my second item of the year and the second item off my Make Nine pledge. Go me!

I’ve technically made 1 and three quarters of these as I started one in a beautiful floral viscose fabric which I bought as a kit from Sew Over It. Unfortunately, I cut one of the pieces out twice and had none left to cut the correct piece out. I’ve carried on following my intuition  but it’s currently lying on my UFO pile.

However, I purchased this lovely leopard print viscose from Stoff & Stil and have made another cami top. This time I had a bit extra in case I made mistakes!

I cut a straight size 14 of this top. I’d never made it before and I’m between a 12 and a 14. I erred on the size of caution and went with the slightly bigger size. I’m glad I did. The 14 is the right size for my bust, but I probably could have graded in for my waist and hips. I may do this at some point.

This top is super simple to make. It has 4 pieces – front, back, front facing & back facing. It can be made in an hour or two. I encountered no problems in making this and I would say it’s suitable for beginners as there are no darts or fastenings.

One thing I like about it, is that it’s quite long, especially at the back. I can’t stand short tops! The only thing that I need to change is I feel like I need a small dart under my arms. For some reason the fabric sticks out a bit there. It’s probably an error I’ve made by being careless with cutting out or sewing!

Overall I’m pleased with this top. It’s easy to make, quick to sew, can be worn with everything and fits well. I can see a few more of these in my wardrobe!
